Role Model Villages
Model village is a village providing a high standard of housing. A model village is a type of mostly self-contained community, built from the late 18th century onwards by landowners and industrialists to house their workers. Although the villages are located close to the workplace, they are generally physically separated from them and often consist of relatively high quality housing, with integrated community amenities and attractive physical environments. "Model" is used in the sense of an ideal to which other developments could aspire. Examples in India include Ankapur, a small, yet self-sufficient model village in India in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, and Model Town in Bhatinda in Punjab. A Model Village is a sustainable rural community that is able to generate and maintain the resources necessary to improve its level of wellbeing and happiness without depleting economic, social & environmental values.
The farmers living in a model village adopt modern methods and substitute subsistence orientation with commercialization. Besides cultivation of commercial crops, they also grow traditional crops for food grains. Usually, where villagers live in a model village, they practise crop rotation, and inter-cropping. They rear cattle, and do mixed farming in the village. They provide good-quality education to their future generations. They often use alternative sources of energy for their sustainable development. All the villagers are connected together using effective means of communication.
